An ACPI-Based Hardware Resources Scaling Method in Lightweight Virtual Machines

With increasing demand for service performance improvement and cost savings, Serverless computing has become the future trend of cloud native technology. Serverless services are mainly carried by containers, but with increasing requirements for security isolation, the introduction of lightweight virtual machines has gradually become a trend. Resource scaling is an important feature of lightweight virtual machines, and existing solutions have significant deficiencies in CPU and memory hotplug-unplug capabilities. Therefore, this paper proposes a CPU and memory hotplug-unplug implementation process based on ACPI in lightweight virtual machine, and verifies in StratoVirt virtual machine. The experimental results show that lightweight virtual machines with CPU and memory hotplug-unplug capabilities significantly optimize startup performance, thereby improving the resilience of Serverless clusters.
