Postmodernism and Beyond

  • Vijoy S. Sahay

摘要

American anthropologist and a key writer and speaker, Scott A. Lukas (2013: pp. 639–645), in one of his essays on postmodernism wrote that ‘postmodernism is a controversial philosophical, aesthetic, and cultural formation that has influenced culture, literature, art, and the social sciences, including anthropology. Postmodernism brought radical changes during the 1980s in the fields of technology, economics, politics, architecture, and popular culture that resulted into a paradigm shift in society in the form of a movement against the prevailing preponderance of modernism. Some thinkers refer to it by post-industrialism as well. Postmodernism is outrightly rejected in natural science; hotly debated in social science; and favourably accepted within the humanities, i.e. literature, history, art, philosophy, etc.’.
