Recognizing and Addressing Artifacts in Cardiac CT

This chapter reviews the most common artifacts that impact diagnostic coronary CT imaging and includes a concise description of the appearance, mechanisms, as well as potential preventive strategies and countermeasures. The artifacts discussed include several causes of motion artifact, partial volume averaging, metal or streak artifact, beam hardening, stair-step, banding and centerline pseudo-stenosis.
