Energy Performance Assessment of Industries and Buildings: A Review of State of the Art

The review discusses the topic of energy audits scenarios for industries as well as for the buildings with high kWh consumption, which involved different locations with high energy savings opportunities. The topics discussed in the review are primarily focused on the areas having high kWh utilization in the different industries and buildings. That included boiler systems, cooling towers, wastewater treatment plants, educational buildings, etc. The energy savings assessment in the different industries involved diverse assessments, and thus, to simplify the assessment process, it was categorized in different groups leading to obtaining a systematic recommendations list as per the groups. The natural gas-fueled boiler system was considered for the energy savings opportunities, by studying the energy efficiency of boiler, before and after the implementation of the recommendations the investment cost for reduction in the air leakages and thermal losses in the piping systems were introduced along with the payback period for typical boiler working conditions. The study also includes the evaluation of economic performance of the cooling towers along with implementation of energy efficiency strategies which involved the modifications in ventilation and air-conditioning (VAC) and lighting systems, water consumption parameters in cooling tower, etc.
