Development of Computerized Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchanger System in Co-Current, Counter-Current Mode, and Cross-Flow Type

The application of a heat exchanger is critical in the current situation. Computerized heat exchangers have been created in recent years to efficiently investigate the changes that occur within the heat exchanger’s fluid under various load circumstances. The shell-and-tube heat exchanger is recommended when the heat exchange surface is large, as we all know. Heat exchangers of the twin pipe type/shell-and-tube type, a heating tank, a rotameter for flow measurements, and an SSR with heater temperature control make up the system. The temperature transmitter detects and sends the temperatures of the entry and output water. These units, along with the appropriate piping and fittings, are housed in a stand-alone support housing. The computer interface is handled by the interfacing unit. The process parameter is controlled by a computer by adjusting the temperature of the hot water passing through the heat exchanger via a solid-state relay. At various flow rates and heat loads, the rate and effectiveness of heat exchange in co-current and counter-current modes were estimated. Performance parameters of heat exchanger like LMTD and overall heat transfer coefficient are analysed under different conditions using computerized software. The controller is connected to a computer via a USB connection in order to facilitate the monitoring and control of the process. User-friendly software is employed in conjunction with the hardware to carry out various sets of experiments.
