Recent Developments on Flame Retardant Fibre-Reinforced Composite Materials

The pursuit of fire safety and improved material properties has led to significant advancements in flame-retardant fiber-reinforced composite materials. This chapter highlights the most effective flame retardants for fiber-reinforced composites, how different flame retardants affect the mechanical properties of the composites, the latest developments in flame retardant fiber-reinforced composites, the potential applications of flame retardant fiber-reinforced composites, the environmental and health implications of using flame retardant fiber-reinforced composites, how the cost of flame retardant fiber-reinforced composites can be reduced, and the challenges in commercializing flame retardant fiber-reinforced composites. There is a need to significantly reduce flammability while maintaining structural integrity. These fire-resistant composites have gained research interest in industries like aerospace, automotive, and construction, where safety and durability are crucial. Hence, ongoing efforts and significant findings in flame-retardant fiber-reinforced composite materials need to be reported, highlighting their potential to contribute to a safer and more sustainable future.
