The Preparation and Characterization of Tannic Acid: A Novel Bio-Based Flame Retardant

摘要

Man-made polymers have contributed significantly in the economy and modern world. Despite having played a significant role, there are serious drawbacks linked with the use of these plastics in the industries. One of the setbacks is their increased amount of flammability which limit their full potential. As a result, the development of efficient flame retardants for these plastics became a priority. At present, a vast number of the flame retardants poses a serious threats to the environment which warranted the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly bio-based flame retardant. This chapter will focus on the progress made on using tannic acid and its composites as a bio-based flame retardant material applied to different polymers. Finally, conclusions and perspectives are briefly described.
