The gas transport properties of polymeric materials, including sorption, diffusion, and permeation, are closely related to the structural characteristics of the polymers. As a result, the analysis of polymers exposed to certain gases by NMR spectroscopy can determine detailed correlations between gas sorption and diffusion in the polymer and high-order structures. One such method involving the analysis of 129Xe NMR chemical shifts is presented herein. This 129Xe NMR spectroscopy was also applied to the first discovery of continuous nanopores within fluid materials. This chapter also discusses the estimation of gas diffusion properties from the peak widths in the NMR spectra of polymers, as well as from data generated using pulsed field gradient NMR.

摘要
