Macronutrients, Micronutrients, Trace Elements, Magnesium and Stroke

摘要

Stroke is one of the major challenges serious health condition for the global healthcare system affecting individual's health and well-being. However, proper nutrition with healthy balanced diet is playing an effective role in either preventing and/or recovering healthy conditions due to their nutrients levels. E.g. macronutrients, micronutrients and trace elements (magnesium, selenium, and zinc … etc.) consumptions played a key role in contribution to cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of stroke. However, all previous studies conclusions of prospective observational in association to dietary factors remained unclear. Therefore, the current chapter is illustrating the dietary and nutritional factors affecting the stroke risk from different food groups with special refer to selenium as trace elements associated with stroke prevention. Food groups and required nutrients (macro/micro-nutrients) in addition to the role of different nutrients and diets in stroke prevention and management have been covered. DASH diet as well has been explained with its benefits and importance to the stroke prevention and/or recovery. Indeed, eating fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to the low saturated fats, trans-fat and cholesterol free diets with high dietary fiber levels reduced the blood pressure and stroke incidence as it has been recorded and obtained from different previous studies therefore, DASH diet could be recommended an effective strategy for stroke prevention.
