Modified Carrier Based Phase Shift Modulation Method for Modular Multilevel Converter for the Improvement of THD and Switching Losses

The submodule capacitor voltage fluctuation is the main problem during the power transformation from dc side to ac side of the converter. It lowers the output voltage's quality while raising the power switches’ rating. The converter's power losses increased as a result of this. For the purpose of reducing switching losses and enhancing the converter's output voltage quality, a novel modulation technique is proposed to address this issue. This technique uses phase shift modulation. The effects of capacitor voltage changes on the quality of the load or output voltage have been examined in the mathematical formulae. Low switching frequencies have been employed to the converter for comparing the proposed modulation with conventional modulation technique. The converter's simulation results have to be done in both the proposed modulation method and traditional modulation methods.
