摘要

There are a massive number of biomaterials in the market utilized in wound healing repair and reconstruction that maintain wound moisture or/and utilized as a barrier, however, finding effective and safe biomaterials for wound healing is still challenging. In recent years, the development of biomaterial, or combination of biomaterials, to substitute the loss of integrity of large portions of the skin due to injury or illness has been considerably investigated thoroughly. Therefore, the recent studies on biomaterials used in repairing and reconstructing skin tissue are highlighted in this chapter. Besides, general background on skin structure, wound healing stages and some local and systemic factors that may affect the wound healing process were declared. Furthermore, the investigated materials' advantages and limitations, in addition to the role of the active load were discussed. Finally, the future challenges and perspectives in this field are discussed in this chapter.
