Electrospun Nanofibers for Wound Healing Applications
摘要
Electrospun nanofibers have been extensively studied in biomedical applications because of their excellent physical and chemical properties. The application of electrospun nanofibers as wound dressings has especially made great progress as they can simulate the structure of the natural extracellular matrix and offer specific features like high surface area and porosity to promote cell attachment, proliferation, and differentiation for supporting three-dimensional tissue formation. They also possess suitable oxygen permeability and good mechanical properties that show excellent utilization value in the fabrication of wound dressing materials. As a simple, versatile, and cost-effective manufacturing technique, electrospinning technology enables localized drug and biomolecule delivery by the integration of antibiotics, natural healing drugs, proteins, plasmid genes, and even nanoparticles into electrospun nanofiber scaffolds. This chapter provides an overview of electrospun nanofibers used in biomedical applications for wound dressings.
