Regulatory Requirements for the Efficacy/Safety Assessment of Cosmetics/Nano-Cosmetics Products: Opportunities and Challenges for New Approach and Methodologies
摘要
Ensuring the safety and efficacy of cosmetics, particularly those containing nanomaterials (nano-cosmetics), requires robust regulatory frameworks. This chapter explores the current landscape of safety assessment for these products, highlighting the opportunities and challenges associated with adopting new approach methodologies (NAMs). The growing emphasis on ethical and animal-free testing methods necessitates the exploration of NAMs. However, challenges remain in fully integrating NAMs into regulatory frameworks. The need for robust validation, data interpretation, and addressing knowledge gaps regarding the unique properties of nanomaterials are crucial considerations. The chapter explores the potential of NAMs to revolutionize cosmetic safety assessment while acknowledging the need for ongoing research and regulatory adaptations to ensure consumer protection in the ever-evolving field of nano-cosmetics.
