Intangible Cultural Heritage as a Tourism Product in the Historic City of Macao
摘要
This chapter discusses the potential of leveraging Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) for heritage-based tourism in historic cities, using the case of the historic city of Macao as a focus. It explores the opportunities ICH offers for tourism, the challenges of maintaining its cultural significance when used as a tourism product, and potential strategies for addressing these challenges. The importance of ICH in attracting tourists to historic living cities is highlighted, emphasising the diversity and appeal of intangible cultural expressions. Additionally, the paper examines the economic and cultural benefits of tourism-related activities, their impact on local communities, and the need for safeguarding measures to prevent the exploitation of ICH.
