Often the desired TIG weld quality is not achieved due to the wrong selection of the welding parameters, and as a result, a large number of trial and error runs need to be carried out before the required weld is eventually produced. Hence, this research was conducted to examine how the weld quality and strength of weld joints vary with varying input process parameters and to optimize these process parameters that will provide a good weld in terms of ultimate tensile strength and % elongation. The gray relational analysis-based optimization revealed that optimum combination of process parameters is current 100 A, welding speed 100 mm/min, and gas flow rate 20 lpm. Computation of optimized parameter setting for welding will help in reduce wastage of material leading to reduced cost, increased productivity, reduced fatigue level of the employees, and most importantly reduced energy consumption and environmental hazards.

摘要
