Application Layer on Data Path: Adaptive Frame Rate

This chapter explores the application layer of data paths with a focus on Adaptive Frame-Rate (AFR) in interactive multimedia streaming. We examine key components such as codec optimization, adaptive bitrate algorithms, and multimedia transmission protocols. By analyzing existing solutions and their limitations, we highlight the importance of managing decoder queue delays to meet the stringent latency requirements of ultra-high-definition, high frame-rate applications like cloud gaming. Our findings underscore the need for AFR techniques to ensure smooth, real-time user experiences by dynamically adjusting frame rates based on network conditions and client capabilities.
