Construction Site Monitoring for Disaster Resilience

摘要

Around 5% of the total employed people work in construction sites. Everyone is well aware of the hardships associated with working in this sector. Construction site workers are always at risk of getting severely injured or losing their lives while working. They can avoid this by properly wearing the requisite safety gear. However, many times the workers do not wear these, which makes them more prone to getting badly hurt during construction site accidents. Also, they are prone to pulmonary and respiratory diseases as they inhale harmful gases for long periods. Inhaling gases such as carbon monoxide for a certain amount of time may prove to be fatal. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor that workers are wearing safety gear and to look for hazardous gases to ensure the safety of construction site workers. In this research work, the authors have attempted to contribute to this issue by designing a system to monitor the construction sites for worker safety gear using computer vision, which has a mean average precision of 84.1%, and hazardous gases with the help of Internet of Things, which measures the concentration of harmful gases in real time using MQ135 gas sensor.
