The Circadian Clock as a Drug Target for Anti-Ageing Strategies
摘要
Aging is commonly perceived as a gradual and continuous deterioration of bodily functions that occurs as one gets older. This decrease is often linked to a reduced ability to handle injury, sickness, and stress (Poon and Perls 2007). A broader interpretation of aging, with an evolutionary perspective, is the ongoing decrease in age-specific “fitness components” of an organism as a result of internal physiological deterioration (Rose 1994). Rose has highlighted that all definitions have a tendency to influence our perception of a situation. For instance, both definitions tend to emphasize the adverse aspects of aging. The process of aging can also encompass adaptability. The process of adaptation to the environment can lead to successful survival when an organism acquires knowledge and skills (Martin 2011).
