Regenerative crop management practices have emerged as a cornerstone in sustainable agriculture, offering a promising approach to enhancing soil biological environments and optimizing crop production. These practices include minimizing soil disturbance, keeping soils covered, keeping roots in the soil year-round, encouraging macro- and microbiota diversity, and integrating the crop with livestock. This article underscores the crucial role of regenerative crop management practices on soil microbial properties and functionality toward enhanced agricultural sustainability and food security. Drawing on empirical evidence, it highlights the transformative impact of regenerative practices on soil fertility, health, and water retention and their significant contribution to carbon sequestration. The integration of regenerative crop management enhances agricultural productivity and nurtures resilient ecosystems capable of withstanding environmental stresses. Furthermore, it explores the challenges and constraints encountered in implementing regenerative practices and proposes strategic actions to overcome them. Through concerted efforts and innovative approaches, we can utilize the potential of soil biology to drive sustainable agriculture and ensure food security for future generations.
