Mastering Control and Connecting Home Appliances

In modern times which on numerous occasions is called the “Era of Technology”, the infrared (IR) remote-control devices are found under almost each and every roof, the list of these devices may range from a color changing SMART LED to TV (television) to advanced air conditioners (AC) and many more. Our world is full of many such devices that we use in our daily life. It is also evident that with increase in the number of devices, there is also an increase in number of IR-based remote to operate each device. To counter this hassle of managing multiple remotes this paper proposes a system in which a single remote-control device is used to control many aspects of our household such as switching on and off many different appliances and even controlling each of them separately using a single universal remote or even your smart phones through Wi-Fi using a IR Blaster. Our system is designed on AT tiny 88 microcontrollers, which can control many devices at the same time and therefore code and decode all of remote-control protocol and hence establishing a connection between transmitter and receiver. The remote control transmits data using IR module which is further received at the receiver end where it is connected to various device switches responsible for turning them ON/OFF. After successful reception of signal, the microcontroller sends signal to relays responsible to switch ON/OFF the home appliances through a relay driver and also providing a way to return to the conventional way of controlling things with just a bypass switch in case of malfunction or any other time as required. This remote is sufficient enough to operate over a range of 12–15 ft and is easy-to-use, reliable, and cost friendly as compared to other home automation systems. We are aiming to develop a fully functional product starting from the scratch. The circuit used in this work is designed to control 6 devices currently (sufficient for one room) and control them from a distance using the remote-control device.
