Enhancing Security in a University Network Using Snort and Wireshark

The rise in the adoption of modern technologies and equipment has led to a heightened risk of data breaches and security concerns. Moreover, the network of any institute can be breached by various malware attacks. Therefore, it is very crucial to safeguard the network. So, this research work is concerned with the university network, where there is a lot of sensitive information like administrative systems, databases, library resources, and platforms for faculty and student records. Also, the university network is connected with various services like emails, online courses, and research activities, where strong security measures are needed. Therefore, employing Snort as a Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) for monitoring and responding to security issues, in conjunction with Wireshark, a tool designed for capturing and analyzing network data, inclusive of monitoring activities surfed on the dark web.
