Seismic Damage Mitigation of Bridge Structures

Although seismic design has been updated to reflect large earthquakes after around 1995, we are still facing to remarkable seismic damage of bridge structures of many countries in the world. So seismic mitigation technologies still need improvement. This part will provide lessons learnt from seismic damage due to large earthquakes in rural areas in Japan and its mitigation technology, especially to enhance bridge resilience. Regarding seismic damage due to large earthquakes, this part mainly will provide remarkable seismic damage of bridges due to the Kumamoto Earthquake. Moreover, regarding further seismic damage mitigation technology, this part mainly will provide advanced seismic damper device technology for bridge structures.
