Burr is an unwanted material usually stuck to the exit end of a workpiece. Burrs produced during drilling damage machining quality resulting in serious assembly-related problems. So, controlling burr is essential to reduce cost and to increase life of a product. Burr generation depends on various parameters including workpiece material properties, geometry of the cutting tool, and process parameters. In this work, a number of experiments has been carried out under different cutting environment (dry and wet) and by varying drilling process parameters and drill geometry. In this experiment, twist drill and step drill are used to compare the amount of burr produced at the exit surface under different cutting condition. From the comparative study performed between step drill and twist drill, it is observed that step drill has reduced burr size remarkably over a twist drill. The experiment, carried out under dry condition with cutting velocity of 19 m/min and a low feed of 0.032 mm/rev, demonstrated that using a step drill instead of a twist drill could reduce the drilling burr height by 96%. Furthermore, when the experiment was conducted at the same cutting velocity but with an increased feed of 0.08 mm/rev and under wet conditions, there was an 86% reduction in the burr height observed.
