The Adriatic Case Studies Within the Project RESPONSe

This chapter presents the context of the study, which is the RESPONSe project, part of the European Union Interreg Italy-Croatia funding system, aimed at addressing climate change challenges in Adriatic regions. Running from January 2019 to April 2022 with a budget of €2.14 million, it involved eight partners collaborating with six study areas across Italy and Croatia. The project focused on Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Marche, and Apulia in Italy, and Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Šibenik-Knin, and Dubrovnik-Neretva in Croatia. The study areas, characterized by diverse landscapes and economic activities, faced climate-related risks like rising sea levels, forest fires, and increased energy consumption. The project’s objectives included enhancing local climate knowledge, engaging local authorities in adaptation planning, and supporting the development of local adaptation strategies. The four-phase approach involved climate analysis, strategy analysis, creation of the Climate Menu toolkit, and local implementation of adaptation actions. The project emphasized stakeholder involvement, recognizing their role in shaping effective adaptation plans.
