Reducing the Risks Posed by Climate Change Through Multi-scalar, Multi-stakeholder Governance

  • Eleonora Gioia

摘要

Weather and climate both affect daily life, health, and well-being. However, human activities are profoundly disrupting the climate system. The European Union faces climate-related hazards that cause economic losses and increase vulnerability. Addressing these challenges requires global cooperation, sustainable practices and resilience measures. Mitigation and adaptation strategies, which are key to climate action, face implementation challenges at different scales. Multilevel governance, involving policymakers, scientists and citizens, plays a crucial role. The EU’s response to climate change is multi-faceted, but difficulties remain in terms of knowledge, political support, and funding. This introductory segment presents the challenges of tackling climate change through a balanced approach that incorporates mitigation, adaptation, and inclusive multi-level governance. The chapter concludes with a detailed overview of the contents of the book.
