CO2 sequestration refers to the long-term isolation of CO2 from the atmosphere by injecting the captured CO2 into deep geological formations through engineering technology. According to the location of storage, it can be divided into terrestrial storage and marine storage. According to the geological storage body, it can be divided into saline aquifer storage and depleted oil and gas reservoir storage, etc.. The global terrestrial theoretical storage capacity is (6–42) × 1012t, and the seabed theoretical storage capacity is (2–13) × 1012t. Among all storage types, storage in deep saline aquifer occupies a dominant position, accounting for about 98% of its storage capacity, and is widely distributed, making it an ideal place for CO2 storage; due to the complete structure and detailed geological exploration foundation and other conditions, the depleted reservoirs are an early geological site suitable for CO2 storage.
