Model Field Load Testing Using Concrete Block Assembly as a Reaction System
摘要
In geotechnical engineering, field testing is considered as important in assessment of characteristics like bearing capacity and settlement patterns. The various tests conducted on field require a reaction system to resist the applied load. The majority of reaction systems have a drawback of being stationary, which prevents performance of tests at different locations. Thus, there is a need to develop a reaction system that can enable testing at different desired locations. The proposed work describes the design of a newly developed test setup for model field load testing which consists of two parts viz, reaction beam and concrete block assembly. The concrete block assembly consisted of various components such as top steel plate, bottom steel plate and concrete blocks. The important feature of the setup included its portability, height adjustability for placement of reaction beam, easy disassembling etc. The design of setup was based on the concept that the reaction beam embedded into concrete blocks assembly would be sufficient to restrain the uplift forces exerted while the testing. The functionality of designed test setup was validated with some field tests.
