In hilly regions, shallow foundations are typically employed to withstand the vertical load coming from the superstructure. In general, two conditions must be satisfied while constructing shallow foundations, i.e., resistance to shear failure and settlement within allowable limits. When shallow foundations are required to be constructed on or near a slope, the factor of safety of slopes is an important factor to be considered. This paper presents a model test carried out on unreinforced and reinforced slopes in order to check the FOS on varying nail lengths, and nail spacing. Different nail lengths (6, 8 and 10 m) and different spacing 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 m have been taken. It has been found that when nail spacing increased the factor of safety gradually decreased while when the nail length decreased the factor of safety decreased. The analysis of the factor of safety of sloped ground is done with the help of the finite element program PLAXIS LE.

摘要
