Technological Intervention for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation

摘要

In recent years, the global climate has changed faster than earlier. This is due to increased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from industries, which trap more heat energy from sunlight and cause global warming and changes in precipitation and weather patterns. Anthropogenic activities, predominantly fossil fuels burning, industrialization, intensive agriculture, land cleaning, etc., contribute to the acceleration of change in global climate. The results of change in climate (CC) are evident in the form of different abiotic stresses, which largely affect the growing of crops. Scientists from different corners of the world have developed several climate-resilient technologies to combat the effects of CC. Some of the best options for CC adaptation and mitigation are the development of stress-tolerant crop varieties, soil health improvement, legume-based cropping systems, agroforestry systems, alternate wetting and drying, drip irrigation, zero tillage, biotechnological approach for developing genetically modified organism, use of renewable energy, integrated pest management, stakeholders’ training and awareness raising programs, early warning systems, etc. These technological interventions, combined with policy frameworks and behavioral changes, can collectively contribute to addressing the challenges of CC. Technological intervention is a cornerstone of alteration in climate adaptation and mitigation strategies, empowering us to adjust to the altering climate, reduce GHG emissions, and transition to more sustainable ways of living and doing business. As the development and deployment of these innovations are continued, they will offer hope for an effective and sustainable future in addressing the challenges of CC.
