Structure and Productivity of Vegetation of Coastal Marshes in the Southern Part of Sakhalin Island (Salmon Bay Carboniferous Polygon)

The chapter considers the productivity of plant communities of coastal marshes of the Sea of Okhotsk (Salmon Bay, upper Aniva Bay). The productivity of aboveground phytomass, aboveground mortmass (including litter and rags) and belowground phytomass was determined and this parameter was assessed in relation to the distance of the phytocoenosis from the sea. The study found no relationship between plant community productivity and its location relative to the sea line; nor between phytocoenosis productivity and its composition. A high unevenness of the herbage was noted.
