Change in the Organoprofile of Marsh Soils During the Evolution of the Sakhalin Island Seashore

The results of a study of soils of salt marshes located in the coastal zone of Salmon Bay in Aniva Bay, Sakhalin Island (46.74° N; 142.73° E) are presented. Five soil profiles were uncovered and samples were collected by horizon to analyse organic matter content and composition. The obtained rates of carbon accumulation in Aniva Bay marshes significantly (2–3 times) exceed most of the values of this value obtained for other coastal areas, which may be related to local climatic and geomorphological peculiarities of the study site. Given the size of the areas occupied by marsh soils, it is possible to make calculations of the total carbon sink in coastal landscapes on Sakhalin Island.
