To the Question of Geomechanics of the Island of Atlantis (on the Data of Plato’s Dialogues “Timaeus” and “Critias”)
摘要
The possibility of formation and evolution of the Atlantis Island described in Plato's dialogues and the ring structure of the city on it due to the exit to the day surface of the intramantle vortex is established. It is shown that the formation of the island of Atlantis, the Rishat structure in Mauritania and the Santorin volcano were determined by the emergence of the Yellowstone-Mediterranean Sea intramantle vortex (belonging to the system of three intensive intramantle vortices) to the day surface, which occurred during the evolution of the vortex. It is shown that the independent data presented by Plato about Atlantis are mutually confirmed, which speaks in favor of the fact that Plato describes events related to a real geophysical process. The information provided by Plato allowed to estimate the internal structure of material layers and the structure of circulation in the vortex. The commonality of the origin of Atlantis, the Santorin volcano and the Rishat structure in Mauritania allowed us to identify the stages of evolution of the intramantle vortex and to construct two independent estimates of the location of possibly preserved traces of Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean west of Gibraltar. These estimates are in good agreement with each other and with the location of the Azores.
