Temperature Regime of the Snow Surface of Ski Slopes on the Example of the Ski Resort “Mountain Air” (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk)

The snow layer of a ski slope is a dynamic system that changes its structure depending on the temperature gradient. The spring period is characterized by large temperature changes, which affects the condition of the snow. Compacting snow on ski slopes is a complex task that requires significant funds. Recommended snow density parameters for safe use of pistes are 300–600 kg/m3. The temperature of the snow is controlled to plan work on the slopes. Observations using loggers have shown that temperatures strongly depend on the depth of snow and underlying soils. Temperature gradients in snow horizons affect its thermal resistance. Simple mechanical compaction of snow is advisable in the evening, and soaking the slope with water in the morning. The use of water to harden snow must be regulated so as not to disturb the temperature field of the snow.
