Assessment of the Protection of Groundwater in the Syrtov Artesian Basin

The territory of the Syrtov artesian basin is located in the eastern part of the East European Platform. The quality of groundwater in the territory of the Syrtov artesian basin is formed under the influence of a number of natural and man-made factors. The likelihood of contamination of the geological environment increases in the locations of oil refining and chemical industry enterprises, and energy complex enterprises. The protection of groundwater from the ingress of polluting components plays a huge role in preserving its natural state. The purpose of the study is to assess the protection of groundwater in the Syrtov artesian basin. As a result, it was concluded that almost all major aquifers and complexes containing fresh water and used for household and drinking water supply to the population have a low degree of protection, especially from the penetration of pollution from the surface. It is possible to prevent negative processes of technogenic water pollution through the introduction of new technologies and, in particular, the use of complex barriers.
