摘要

Substance use among children and women in South Asia is a complex and multifaceted issue with significant public health implications. The substances commonly used include tobacco, alcohol, opioids, cannabis, sedatives, solvents, and synthetic drugs. Poverty, lack of education, peer pressure, exposure to domestic violence, and limited access to healthcare services contribute to the vulnerability of these populations to substance use. Early substance use initiation exacerbates the risks of addiction, developmental delays, mental health disorders, and engagement in risky behaviors. Women face unique challenges related to substance use, including stigma, gender-based violence, and limited access to treatment and support services. Efforts to address substance use among children and women in South Asia require a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, treatment, and harm reduction strategies. By adopting a multi-sectoral approach and addressing the underlying determinants of substance abuse, policymakers and stakeholders can work towards mitigating the adverse effects of substance use and improving the overall health outcomes in the region.
