Effect of Addition of Nano Alumina on Torsional Strength of High Performance Concrete Beam

Structural elements like spandrel beams, eccentrically loaded beams, girders of curved bridges, and circular staircases are subjected to torsional moments. The material of such beams fails in torsion rather than shear. While designing such beams torsional moments need to be considered. The investigations on effect of addition of nano alumina on improving the torsional strength of concrete beams are seldom addressed. Nanotechnology offers a chance to understand the behavior of concrete to utilize its properties in a more precise way. In this research paper, the high performance concrete beams with the addition of nano alumina are prepared and tested for torsional behavior. The test result indicates that with the increase in the percentage of nano alumina the propagation of initial cracks is delayed and ultimate torsional strength is enhanced. This study aims to investigate the optimized percentage of nano alumina in high performance concrete beams subjected to torsional loading.
