Engineered Cementitious Composite Performance with Natural River Sand of Varying Particle Sizes

Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) are receiving popularity in the construction sector because of their superior properties over conventional concrete. ECC performance is influenced by the size and amount of sand utilized. Most ECC studies used micro silica sand, with river sand (RS) employed in a few. The significance of RS particle sizes on ECC performance, which is the purpose of this research, has received less attention. This study looks at the effect of RS gradation on the flowability and mechanical characteristics of Engineered Cementitious Composites (RS-ECC) rather than micro silica sand. To observe the variation of fresh and hardened properties for RS-ECC, 2.36, 1.18 and 0.6 mm of the RS are used. By evaluating the characteristics, the performance of RS-ECC is observed. Change in RS gradation result in an improvement in ECC characteristics. ECC with RS-0.6 mm is giving the best performance to other gradations of RS.
