摘要

Dynamic loadings such as seismic and wind, is of critical importance in the design and analysis of the structures. These loads can cause significant stress and deformation in a structure, leading to structural failure if not properly accounted in the design. Hence, this study was conducted to identify the critical areas of the frame that are susceptible to failure under dynamic loading and to determine stress-prone areas in the event of failure. In this study, an open web steel frame considered by researchers Das and Basole was examined for dynamic loading such as seismic and wind loads. Pushover analysis and finite element analysis were conducted in SAP software, with the flange and web slenderness ratios varied to produce different combinations in accordance with standard design codes such as IS 800 (IS 800-2007: Indian standard code of practice for general construction in steel (2007)), EN 1993.1.1 (EN 1993-1-1, Eurocode 3: Design of steel structures—Part 1-1: General rules and rules for buildings, vol 1 (2005)), and BS 5950.1.1 (BS 5950-1:1990: Structural use of steelwork in building. Part Code of practice for design in simple and continuous construction: hot rolled sections (1990)). Utilizing this information can aid in preventing frame failure by reinforcing essential spans. By observing the behavior and formation of hinges within a structure, one can identify vulnerable areas of the frame that are susceptible to failure, as well as critical spans of members that require strengthening. This acquired knowledge becomes instrumental in averting frame failure. In case of failure, stress-prone regions can be pinpointed, allowing for targeted retrofitting measures to be implemented.
