Comprehensive Design of an Educational High-Rise Steel Building at Anurag University: A Case Study

摘要

The trend of high-rise buildings in urban areas has led to the preference for modular construction, with steel modules being a better option than precast concrete due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and scrap value. However, there is a lack of practical studies on comprehensive planning for high-rise steel buildings that incorporate all engineering aspects, including surveying, soil investigation, architectural plans, design, and estimation. This project aims to address this gap by proposing a comprehensive design for a 7-storey educational high-rise steel building at the Anurag University Campus. A site survey was conducted to determine the total land area, and soil analysis was performed to ascertain the safe bearing capacity for the substructure design. The architectural plans were then prepared using survey data and in compliance with the building planning principles outlined in the National Building Code (NBC) standards. The superstructure, composed of a steel frame and concrete deck slabs with composite beams, was designed based on the architectural plans. The steel connections and substructure elements were designed based on the analysis results of the superstructure, as per Indian standards. The total budget required for construction is estimated based on the present market value. The project provides a practical example of high-rise steel building design for faster and more efficient construction, benefiting future urban building projects. The study concludes that wind loads, rather than seismic loads, govern the lateral rigidity of the structure concerning building drift ratios.
