A Study on Energy Dissipation Capacity of Multi Coil MR Damper for Seismic Mitigation
摘要
By actively reducing vibrations, magnetorheological (MR) dampers have become a potential control technique for improving the performance of many structures. It effectively reduces the vibration and increase the system stability. It is an adaptive device that can actively adjust their damping properties in response to various conditions. In the present study a multi coil MRD designed, fabricated and experimentally investigated. The MRD consist of 9 coils and 10 piston poles. A series of cyclic load tests were conducted to investigate the behaviour of the multi coil MRD under various sinusoidal loading conditions. Four different loading frequencies (0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 Hz) were applied to constant amplitude of 25 mm for negative and positive cycles. The medium yield stress MR fluid (MRF-132-DG) is used throughout the study. The maximum damping force at 1 Hz is 5.3 kN. As a result, the proposed damper can be utilized to reduce structure vibration in seismically active zones in a seismic resilient method.
