Political Ideology in Afghanistan: Patrimonial Absolutism

A variety of patrimonial absolutist actors opposed Mahmud TarziTarzi, Mahmud and Amanullah’s modernist vision of Afghanistan. During the reign of Amanullah’s father Habibullah Khan, a large conservative faction led by the king’s brother Nasrullah KhanKhan, Nasrullah was just as averse toward the British as Tarzi, but disliked his proposals for domestic reform.
