“Securing” Borders in Anthropocene Geopolitics: Perspectives On and From the Border Villages of Punjab

This chapter assumes that borders, especially borders as homelands, are significant but subliminal—under-researched—barometers of Anthropocene; a strategic site to critically assess the impacts and implications of global, regional, national, sub-national, and local policy outreach and outcomes in response to various challenges of the Anthropocene. This is more so in the case of South Asia which qualifies as an eco-geographical sub-continent; one of the most disaster-prone regions on the face of the globe. The chapter argues that borders and borderlands of post-colonial/post-partition (border)lands in South Asia are precariously placed on the intersection of highly resilient, masculine classical geopolitics embodied in highly militarized borders and the imperative of a new Anthropocene geopolitics.
