Integrated Waveguide Structure and Properties

This chapter will introduce the fundamental light-guiding mechanisms in integrated waveguides based on three general structures, i.e., strip waveguide, rib waveguide, slot waveguide, and illustrate the basic concepts and formulas of dispersion. Moreover, the chapter will present the results of these three structures, and other representative waveguide structures to explain the fundamental principles of the dispersion engineering. The chapter will also provide a summary of various waveguide structures, emphasizing the material combinations between the high-index core and the low-index cladding.
