Sustainability Initiatives in the Asian Textile Industry

The Apparel and Textile industry focuses on sustainability as its key factor which impacts the social, economic, and ecological aspects of Asian countries. This necessitates the right way of sourcing eco-friendly material and production processes, reducing waste, incorporating circularity in the complete supply chain, reducing the carbon footprint, etc. To improve the sustainability of the clothing and textile commercial, it is imperious to deliberate the effects on the environment, society, and economy through the manufacturing process. Sustainability initiatives in the Asian Textile and apparel countries include embracing sustainable materials and technologies by major players of the textile industry. Initiatives like Better Work and Fair-trade certification promote social responsibility, while traceability systems promote transparency and accountability. Environmentally sustainable strategies are being adopted by businesses more and more in all facets of their operations. The chapter indicates that collaboration between stakeholders is essential for tackling sustainability challenges and achieving common objectives. Case study discussions of the chapter present insights on various sustainability practices taken by the Asian Textile industry in India and China.
