Cultural Influences on Consumption: Insights from India
摘要
This chapter investigates the impact of culture on textile consumption in India. India's rich heritage of culture is reflected in many elements of textile consumption including traditional attire, geographic variation, religious importance, social standing, and artisanal craftsmanship. The regional variety of textiles is expressed by various weaving techniques, designs, and fabric preferences throughout India. Religion also influences dress choices during religious events and festivals. Textiles are used to indicate social position, identity, and even marital status, with various fabrics and designs representing money and prestige. Despite the influence of Western fashion trends, traditional dress remains popular, often with modern twists. Furthermore, there is a growing trend toward sustainable and environment-friendly textile consumption, indicating a change toward conscientious consumerism. To traverse the complicated environment of textile consumption, marketers, governments, and consumers must first understand these cultural effects.
