Biochar Catalyst for Oxidation Reactions

Biochar has emerged as a sustainable and eco-friendly carbonaceous material for catalyzing various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for environmental remediation. The fascinating physio-chemical properties of Biochar can be tuned by changing the precursor, raw material and by the mode of synthesis. Biochar is considered “treasure out of trash” as it is prepared from various organic waste products and hence not only solves the problem of solid waste management but also helps in removal of the various effluents from environment. These environment friendly materials have found various applications in different fields and need further exploration. The significance of biochar in utilitarian terms can be realized by fine tuning its properties with respect to pH, parent materials, temperature or mode of synthesis to produce desired results.
