Biochar-Based Catalyst for Degradation of Organic Pollutants

Biochar, a carbonaceous material, has potential applications in environmental remediation because of its low cost, larger surface area, and porosity, specifically advanced oxidation processes have attracted a great attention. This chapter covers biochar activation and its catalytic properties. The biochar catalysts’ properties can be changed by changing feedstock, the conditions, and its modification methods. Further, the preparation methods and degradation process have been explained along with the contaminants and its properties. Moreover, the advanced oxidation processes for contaminants along with the nature of oxidants are also explained that is used for required reaction.
