Extracorporeal Devices: Artificial Kidney
摘要
The field of artificial kidneys has the interest among researchers in recent years due to efficiency of the portable extracorporeal devices in addressing renal failure. Biocompatibility is the major concern as the interaction between blood components and artificial surfaces can trigger immune responses and clotting issues. Hollow fibers are used for membrane application which offers pores that allows the transport of uremic toxins and purification of the blood. This chapter reviews the design, materials used, and evaluation of membrane for dialyzer application.
