X-Nonlinear Inertia: Human Body Inspired Systems with Rotational Leverages

The X-structure/mechanism can be used to create very special linear or nonlinear inertia effect, which can be completely different from most existing known inertial systems. The previous two chapters demonstrate the versatility of X-structures for constructing new inertial systems with advantageous dynamic performance, but the resulting inertia are still linear. In Chap.  2 , it is noted that rod mass effect of X-structure is actually a nonlinear inertia. In this chapter and those several following chapters, it is shown that nonlinear inertia can have very rich and beneficial mechanic properties in a dynamic system, and especially integrated with the X-structural dynamics, the resulting X-nonlinear inertia can provide a new tool for achieving special nonlinear mechanic effect and advantageous vibration control performance.
