Increasing Diversity in the Threat Perception of the CSTO Member States

This chapter mainly focuses on the security scenario in the post-Soviet space after the demise of the Soviet Union. The cardinal points of discussion would be regarding the backdrop of the post-Soviet space, the relation between the newly independent states and the role that radical Islam plays in the wider regional security context. It is here that the chapter will focus on the symbiotic reply by the post-Soviet states against the threats posed and the founding of the Tashkent treaty as a consequence.
